How to properly clean your cast iron cookware
Step 1: Wash
Wash cast iron cookware by hand. You can use a small amount of soap. If necessary, use a scraper to peel off stuck-on food. For stubborn stains, simmer some water for 3-5 minutes, then use the scraper after the pan has cooled. The Seasoning Care Kit has everything you need to wash and care for your cast iron cookware the right way.
Step 2: Dry
Dry immediately and carefully with a lint-free cloth or paper towel. If you notice a little black residue on your towel, it's just seasoning and completely normal.
Step 3: Add some oil!
Spread a thin layer of cooking oil or seasoning spray on the surface of your cookware. Use a paper towel to wipe the surface until no oil residue remains.
What is seasoning?
Seasoning is the process in which the cast iron cookware is baked with vegetable oil, obtaining a 100% natural non-stick finish, unlike most cookware on the market that has an artificial non-stick finish that wears easily and can become harmful to health , seasoned cast iron cookware is the healthiest choice. The more often you use a seasoned cast iron utensil, the more you strengthen its seasoning, while if you follow the correct instructions for cleaning and caring for it, it will last for generations. Lodge applies the seasoning process to all its cast iron cookware, using only soybean oil.
